St. Theresa Point, MB 2025

Land-based learning instructor Chris Harper runs a mandatory two week culture camp in St. Theresa Point, Manitoba. The camp is championed by University College of the North (UCN) and local leaders in education. Students are exposed to cultural activities and workshops centered on traditional Indigenous knowledge like medicine picking, harvesting wild foods, and constructing tikinagans (a traditional Indigenous baby carrier, also called a cradleboard).

"It's important we transfer that knowledge to them, and never say that they are not worthy of who they are. It's very important that you have that pride within."- Chris Harper, Cultural Camp Advisor.

Art for Aid, with the help of the Ottawa-Stittsville Rotary Club and public donations was able to supply the camp with much needed outdoor gear. This support will enable youth to be comfortable and safe while learning invaluable traditional skills from community members who carry the culture for the people. We are proud to support land-based learning for the youth in St. Theresa Point. We were able to provide Chris with some vital gear to enhance the experience of his students when they learn land-based skills.
